Summer Sevens Schedule and Information
Sevens is a very fast version of rugby. It is played on the same size field as the traditional 15s game but only 7 players per team take the field. Because there are so few players in the game and such a large field, there is a lot of open field running and tackling. The game is played at a very fast pace and, therefore, only lasts a total of 15 minutes. The halves are 7 minutes long and there is a 1 minute half time. The game is always played in tournament format. These tournaments attract teams from all over Florida and even other states. Each team generally plays 4 to 6 games per day in a sevens tournament. The only equipment required to play sevens is a mouth gaurd, cleats, and rugby shorts. In the summer of 2007, The Pelicans will be practicing on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Northdale Soccer Fields. New players are welcome to join us. Players must register with USA Rugby in order to be eligible to join the club or play in a tournaments. No club dues are collected for summer sevens. Instead, each player contributes a pro-rata portion of the team's entry fee in order to play in a tournament. This is normally a $12 to $15 expense per player. This summer, the Pelicans have committed to attend 5 tournaments. We may choose to participate in additional tournaments depending on player interest and availability. Sunshine State Games 7’s |
